CACP Statement - Announcement by Public Safety Minister Blaney re. Changes to Firearm Regulations

"The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police commends the fact that the Minister did seek the views of the CACP within his consultation. We recognize their desire to find solutions which would be aimed at streamlining firearm regulations while balancing them with public safety considerations. Our first and foremost goal is the safety and security of all Canadians and we will have concerns if there are increased opportunities for legal firearms to be used illegally.

Consultation is a positive step forward. The CACP will review the announcement and consult with our membership towards providing further input as it reaches the committee stage.”
